Verification & Privacy: How We Protect Your Identity
About Zap
Zap revolutionises the way you send money, enabling seamless bank transfers to any account, anywhere. As the preferred choice for hassle-free monetary transactions, Zap offers a user-friendly experience designed to empower users with simplicity and efficiency.
How we protect your privacy
To register and use Zap we are required to verify your identity in accordance with applicable law, and manage this through selfie verification. This may apply during initial registration, key account actions (e.g., PIN resets) and additional verification needs for specific user groups (e.g. Tier 2 accounts). Given the automated nature of this processing activity, the opportunity for human intervention is available, should there be any erroneous results.
Understanding our Verification Process
Zap prioritises your security and privacy. Our processes comply with legal, regulatory and industry standards. An enhanced verification process is necessary to provide additional security and functionality for Tier 2 users.
How Selfie Verification Works
To verify your identity, Zap uses your selfie to verify that you are who you say you are. This is how it works:
Facial Geometry Matching: When you upload a selfie, the system analyses your facial geometry, measuring distances between key features such as your eyes, nose, mouth, and jawline.
Biometric Identifiers: The selfie also helps us verify unique biometric identifiers, including eye colour and the specific shape of your facial features, like ear contours.
Liveness Detection: To ensure the selfie is genuinely from you at the time of submission, our system checks for signs of life through natural movements (e.g. blinking, smiling) and head motions in response to prompts.
Data Integration: The collected data from your selfie is compared against the photographs associated with your Bank Verification Number (BVN), National Identification Number (NIN) and other means of identification, including previously taken selfies and various identification documents, ensuring that the person creating the account is the rightful owner.
Privacy and Choice
Your right to privacy is paramount. Zap processes personal data strictly according to legal requirements. Our privacy-notice provides detailed information about how your data is processed and protected. If you prefer not to participate in this level of verification, you will be provided with an alternative verification measure.
Zap is committed to transparency and safeguarding your personal data, ensuring a secure and trustworthy experience.
How Our Manual Intervention Verification Processes Work
Document Verification
Upload and Analysis: You upload an ID document with your photograph, which the system analyses for authenticity.
Data Extraction: Optical Character Recognition (OCR) extracts key data from the document for verification.
Verification: The extracted information is verified against databases to ensure its accuracy and the document's validity.
Approval: Upon successful verification, access to services or account features is granted.
How do I opt-out of Face ID?
If you choose to use Face ID as a secure means of authentication when using the Zap app, please note you are able to opt out of this decision at any point in time. “Face ID” allows you to unlock your Zap account and make payments, by gaining secure entry through the provision of your visible identity, which the device recognises in order to authenticate you. You can remove this feature from your Zap app by entering your device settings, searching for the Zap app, then unchecking the “Face ID” setting. Please note that we do not collect and save your Face ID data in our environment because it is stored on your device. Therefore, we do not and cannot share them with a third party.
